2009-10: Andrew Copp played for the Compuware U16 team in Michigan. In 38 games he scored 12 goals with 15 assists and 12 penalty minutes. Copp also played quarterback for his high schoo football team.

2010-11: Copp, an Ann Arbor native, joined USA Hockey's National Team Development Program after playing 17 games for the Compuware U18 team. He scored 2 goals with 7 assists and had 6 penalty minutes for Compuware. He scored 1 goal in six games for the NTDP’s U18 team and had 1 goal with 4 assists and 4 penalty minutes in 25 U17 games. Copp was the only NTDP player to play another sport – playing quarterback for the Skyline High School football team in its initial varsity season.

2011-12: Copp returned to the US NDTP program for his second season. After missing time early in the season after breaking his collar in his final football game, he skated with the NTDP U17 and U18 teams and won a gold medal skating for the USA at the 2012 U18 World Junior Championship. In 23 games for the NTDP U18 team he scored 1 goal with 5 assist and had 2 penalty minutes. He scored 5 goals with 6 assists in nine games with the NTDP U17 squad. Copp had 1 assist in six games at the U18 WJC. The USA defeated Sweden in the gold medal game. Copp accepted a scholarship in May to play college hockey at Michigan in 2012-13.

2012-13: Copp played in 38 games for Michigan in his freshman season. After seeing limited action and posting just one point in the Wolverines’ first 14 games (scoring a goal in his first college game), he finished the season with 11 goals and 10 assists. Michigan struggled in the final season of the CCHA, finishing in seventh place. In his second year of draft eligibility, Copp was ranked 142nd amongst North American skaters in Central Scouting’s final rankings and was selected by Winnipeg in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.

2013-14: Copp was the second-leading scorer for the University of Michigan in his sophomore season behind T.J. Compher (BUF) and played for the USA U20 team at the 2014 World Juniors. In 33 games with the Wolverines he scored 15 goals with 14 assists and was plus-1 with 26 penalty minutes. Michigan finished third in the Big Ten in the conference’s inaugural season but was upset by Penn State in the conference tournament and did not receive an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. Copp had 5 assists and was plus-3 with 2 penalty minutes in five games at the WJC. The USA finished fifth; losing to Russia in the quarterfinals.
