Background: A local Detroit native, Kyle Krug grew up playing travel and high school hockey in Livonia. Then continued his hockey journey by playing college hockey at Henry Ford College and Eastern Michigan University.
Early Coaching: Kyle began coaching AAA hockey in 1982 at the pee-wee level.
Advancement: He moved up to coach Midget AAA with Compuware under Real Turcotte, stickhandling school and Michigan State legend and served as an assistant coach under Andy Weidenbach Senior for the Compuware Junior A team in the NAHL (Tier II) from 1985 to 1989.
Head Coaching Roles:
>Took the first head coaching position with Redford NACE in the NAHL during the 1989-90 season.
>Coached the Detroit Jr. Redwings in the NAHL for the 1990-91 season.
>Transitioned to coaching sons, Adam, Matt, and Torey, with stints at multiple prestigious Michigan Tier 1 organizations.
Family: Krug is married to his wife Cheryl and continues to live in Livonia. They have four sons (Adam, Matt, Torey and Zachary). The Krug’s also have 9 grandchildren. Son, Torey is currently a member of St. Louis Blues (NHL). While his son Adam coached at Adrian College (NCAA-Division 3) for 10 years and was recently hired by Bakersfield Condors (Edmonton Oilers) of the American Hockey League and Matt will serve as Compuware 18U assistant coach this season.
Achievements:
2003: Won the Quebec Pee-Wee Tournament and the USA National Championship title becoming the first-ever U.S. team to win both in the same year.
2007: Led Minor Midgets (1991 birth year) to a USA National Championship victory.
Recent Involvement: Since then, Krug has been actively coaching in Tier 1 organizations, working with players born between 1994 and 2006.
Greg is non-parental head coach who grew up in Brantford Ontario. Greg played goal for the Oshawa Generals (OMJHL), the Adirondack Red Wings, and the Detroit Red Wings. Stefan began his coaching career with the Detroit Jr Red Wings of the OHL which later became the Plymouth Whalers where he was head coach for two seasons. Greg was with the NHL Carolina Hurricane organization as a scout, goalie coach, and assistant coach. In 2006, Stefan won the Stanley Cup as goalie coach/scout with the Carolina Hurricanes. Greg is a Level 4 certified USA Hockey coach. This is Greg’s eighth season coaching with Compuware Youth Hockey. Greg’s 2020-21 15 Only team won the MAHA State Championships and participated in the USA Hockey Nationals Championships; participant in 2022 and 2023 USA Hockey Nationals Championships.
Paul grew up in Marquette Michigan playing hockey since the age of three. Paul played AAA for the first ever Midget Major team in Marquette and then joined the Marquette Redmen High School team. After graduation Paul joined the United States Marine Corps serving in Desert Storm. After his four years in the Marine Corps, Paul enrolled at Eastern Michigan University where he played four years of club hockey and then turned to coaching. Coach Fassbender spent three years as an assistant at EMU before becoming the Head Coach. While at EMU: two time All-Star, two time CSCHL coach of the year and qualifying for the National Tournament in all 12 years associated with EMU Hockey, including National Runner up in the 1999-2000 season. After five years as the Eagles head coach, he stepped down at the end of the 2005 season with the birth of his second child. Paul returned to doing 12 seasons as a High School Head Coach with his last stop at Saline High School. During those 12 seasons: five SEC Division titles and two Metro League Division titles. He was able to capture six Regional titles and one final four appearance. He has also been an assistant coach for the Compuware Midget Major team. Paul is a non-parental Level 4 certified USA Hockey coach and brings a hard work dedicated mentality to the Compuware program. Paul’s philosophy is development. It takes time and patience to develop the right skills and work ethic to be able to compete day in and day out. While talent is important, being an athlete with a passion for the game as well the desire to study the game for their own development. Paul wants players that want to be here and want to work hard. This is Paul’s fifth season back with Compuware.
Brian is non-parental head coach who grew up in Livonia Michigan. Coach Beaufait played Tier 1 hockey in Detroit with several teams including Compuware. Brian was drafted in the NAHL and played for the Redford Royals followed by playing at the University of Wisconsin- Superior (NCAA Div. 3). Brian is a Level 4 certified USA Hockey coach with over 18 years of experience with various AAA programs. Brian is in his third year with the Compuware program.
Coach Elland is currently a NHL scout for the Carolina Hurricanes. He was the 2014-15 Plymouth Whalers head coach and prior to that he was the assistant coach for four years. Coach Elland has worked with multiple professional, college and junior players during their development years. Don played for Paddock Pools from 1981-1983. Don is a non-parental Level 4 certified USA Hockey coach. Coach Elland has eleven years coaching experience for Compuware AAA.
Jason is originally from Redford, Michigan and began his hockey career at the age of five. He continued playing throughout his childhood on various travel teams in different communities before ending up as a goalie at Catholic Central in Redford, MI, where he was a member of the 1994 State Championship team. Following a successful high school hockey career, Jason continued playing at the University of Michigan-Dearborn while he worked to receive his degree in Psychology. During his collegiate career, he was selected as an All-Star twice, named team MVP his senior season and was a finalist for the Bob Johnson Award which is given to the best collegiate athlete in the American Collegiate Hockey Association. Following his playing days, Jason went on to be an Assistant Coach with the Junior B Wayne Wheels and the Motor City Chiefs. After that, he went on to be an instructor with Suburban Hockey Schools and several years later, was named Head Coach of the 2007 Michigan Lakers where he focused on providing an environment where young hockey players could develop their skills at a more competitive level to become even better hockey players. Jason continued coaching at the 2007 level where his team was ranked as high as #3 in the nation at the tier two level. Jason is a Level 4 certified USA Hockey coach. This is Jason’s third season with Compuware.
Coach Steve grew up in the Westland area before moving out to Highland, Mi where he played his entire Tier 1 career for the Tier 1 1985’s. This team won numerous awards and high profile tournaments all over North America including the Quebec PeeWee International tournament. Steve was drafted in the OHL 5th round, 86th overall by Pete DeBoer and Steve Spott from the Plymouth Whalers. He was also was lucky enough to be coached by some great coaches, including Mike Vellucci, Alex Roberts, and Greg Stefan. Steve started coaching once his playing career ended. Coach Steve is a motivating, hi tempo coach who is very involved with his players, and very passionate about teaching the game of hockey. He expects 100% effort of each individual hockey player all while teaching in a fun, challenging atmosphere. This, he believes, is the key to a successful hockey team. Steve is a Level 2 certified USA Hockey coach. This is Steve’s second year at Compuware.
