14U Bantam AA 2009 Ben Warda

Ben grew up in Lake Orion, Michigan and played AAA for Compuware during his Midget Major year. After midgets, Ben played three years of Junior Hockey: one season with the Stratford Cullitons (Canadian Jr.B) and two seasons for the St. Louis Bandits (NAHL) where the team won back to back Robertson Cups under Head Coach Jon Cooper. After juniors Ben accepted a scholarship to Michigan State University. After his freshman year he transferred to Western Michigan University winning a CCHA Conference Championship during his junior year under coaches Jeff Blashill and Andy Murray. After college Ben played five years professionally overseas in Germany while running his own hockey school: Warda Hockey Academy. He’s now entering his fourth year coaching teams. Ben is a non-parental Level 4 certified USA Hockey Coach.


13U Bantam A 2010 Lee Swallow

Lee grew up playing in the Compuware AAA program and went on to play Junior A hockey in the OJHL for the Milton Merchants and the St. Michael's Buzzers. After his junior career, he played NCAA D3 hockey for the Milwaukee School of Engineering where he enjoyed a successful four year career. A current USA hockey Level 4 certified USA Hockey Coach he brings a passion for teaching the game of hockey with a focus on skill development and skating.  This is Coach Swallow's fourth year with Compuware.


12U PeeWee AA 2011 Gordie Lietz

Gordie has over 30 years of coaching experience: Squirt AA through Midget AA and Tier 1 PeeWee.   Coach Lietz played in the North American Hockey League.  He has strong connections to the Michigan Hockey community.  Gordie works to develop kid’s passion for the game and will focus primarily on increasing player skill.  Gordie is non-parental and is a Level 4 certified USA Hockey Coach.  This will be Coach Lietz's tenth year with Compuware.


11U PeeWee A 2012 Darren Brown

Darren grew up playing travel hockey in Lansing from Squirt AA through Midget A and played 18U AAA before enrolling in college.  In the summers after his Junior and Senior years, he worked weekly as a skills coach at a summer hockey camp in Lansing.  He played two seasons of ACHA Division III club hockey, where he was a league all star and academic all-American, before transferring to Michigan State where he won a league championship and went to Nationals as a member of their Division II Club team.  Darren has seven years of coaching experience and is a Level 4 certified USA Hockey Coach.  Darren enjoys coaching and developing players who have drive and a passion for the game.  His goal is to always challenge his players to improve their game, be good teammates, and help them all grow as people into leaders. This is Darren’s first year at Compuware.


10U Squirt AA 2013 Mike Henry

Mike is an Ann Arbor Native. He grew up playing hockey in the Ann Arbor Hockey Association. He played AAA hockey for two years in Pee Wees, attended Culver Military Academy for a year, and then returned to Ann Arbor to play for the Ann Arbor Huron River Rats. After high school he attend Kent State University and played ACHA Division 1 club hockey. Mike graduated Kent State with a degree in Sports Management. Upon graduation, he started working for Compuware Arena and the Plymouth Whalers, where he was part of the 2007 Ontario Hockey League Championship. In 2012, he was named the Director of the Compuware Youth Hockey program whereas Director he has been part of 2 National Championships and 16 State Championships. Throughout his career, he has been a head and assistant coach at many different levels from Learn to Play to Compuware Midget Majors. He has coached several camps and clinics through the years including Mid-Am development camps in the summer. Mike focuses on skill development, while working on team play. Teams have a simple philosophy of work hard, support your teammates and have fun. Mike is a Level 4 certified USA Hockey Coach. 


9U Squirt A Brown 2014 Steve Phillips

Coach Steve grew up in the Westland area before moving out to Highland, Mi where he played his entire Tier 1 career for the HoneyBaked 1985’s. This team won numerous awards and high profile tournaments all over North America including the Quebec PeeWee International tournament. Steve was drafted in the OHL 5th round, 86th overall by Pete DeBoer and Steve Spott from the Plymouth Whalers. He was also was lucky enough to be coached by some great coaches, including Mike Vellucci, Alex Roberts, and Greg Stefan. Steve started coaching once his playing career ended. Coach Steve is a motivating, hi tempo coach who is very involved with his players, and very passionate about teaching the game of hockey. He expects 100% effort of each individual hockey player all while teaching in a fun, challenging atmosphere. This, he believes, is the key to a successful hockey team. Steve is a Level 1 certified USA Hockey Coach.  This is Steve’s first year at Compuware.


9U Squirt A Orange 2014 Brian Shekell

Brian brings decades of playing experience to help teach and develop hockey players. After spending several years playing travel hockey in the area, Brian played three seasons of varsity hockey at Livonia Stevenson, where he served as captain during his junior and senior years.  Brian believes in promoting a fun, supportive environment that focuses on skill development and an understanding of the game. Brian is a Level 2 certified USA Hockey Coach. This is Brian's second season with Compuware.


8U Mite AA 2015 Gordie Lietz

7U Mite A 2015 Chris Brewer

Chris started his hockey career in Lansing and played from Atoms through Mite AA for the Lansing Capitals before moving to Hartland and playing for Ann Arbor until Bantam A.  Chris transitioned to High School Hockey where he played four years varsity hockey for Hartland High School where he earned several academic and athletic accolades.  After High School, Chris pursued his passion for engineering at Lawrence Technological University where he played four years for their ACHA Division III hockey team.  During his college stint, he was a three time Academic All American.  Chris has four years coaching experience and is a Level 3 certified USA Hockey Coach.  Chris’s goal is to create a fun, energetic and challenging learning environment that teaches foundational skills and strategies to develop young hockey players.  This is Chris’s first year at Compuware Youth Hockey where he is the head coach for the 7U T2 team and assistant coach for the 11U T2 team.
