USA Hockey's Safe Sport Program

USA Hockey is committed to creating a safe and positive environment for all participants’ physical, emotional, and social development, and has adopted the United States Olympic Committee’s SafeSport training materials specifically customized for USA Hockey.  This comprehensive program includes written materials, policies, and a series of online training videos aimed at educating its members and preventing abuse.  The training is available to anyone (including parents), free of charge. Officials, Coaches, Team Managers, and Program Volunteers are required to complete the training.  Your USA Hockey member registration confirmation number (Player/Coach, Official or Team Manager/Volunteer) is required to access the video training.  Materials can also be accessed at USA Hockey.

Youth Athlete Training Courses

The U.S. Center for SafeSport has produced Youth Athlete Training courses that are available for minor-age athletes. These resources include courses for children of pre-school age; grades K-2; grades 3-5; middle school and high school. These free online trainings are designed as an introduction for minor athletes and their parents or other caregivers to understand the importance of positive, welcoming environments in sports, where misconduct like bullying or abuse is less likely to happen, and to know where to report abuse, should it occur.
These courses are not required but are available as a resource.

Reporting a Suspected Incident

If an Adult Participant reasonably suspects that an incident(s) of Child Abuse or Sexual Misconduct has occurred, they must immediately report the incident(s) to the Center as well as applicable law enforcement authorities. Reports to the Center may be made by (1) completing an online report to the Center at www.uscenterforsafesport.org/report-a-concern/  or by (2) calling 833-587-7233.

Reports of any allegation of misconduct or other inappropriate behavior that may violate Safe Sport Policies other than Sexual Misconduct or Child Abuse, should be made immediately to the MAHA Michigan Safe Sport Coordinator (at www.maha.org, ‘Parents and Players’, ‘Safety’, ‘Safe Sport Program’).
